John founded Makao Investments to help more investors in New Zealand and the Pacific achieve their investment objectives. He takes a holistic approach to investment advice ensuring quality and detail in our research at all times.

Prior to founding Makao in 2019 and relocating back to New Zealand, John was a Senior Strategist within the investment division for Russell Investments in London. He designed the asset allocation advice for institutional clients across EMEA including pension schemes, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies. He also had portfolio management responsibility for the Fiduciary Management business in the UK. John also worked for Russell Investments’ Multi-Asset portfolio management team implementing fund-of-fund portfolios with derivative overlays and as an analyst in the institutional team in New Zealand.

John is a born and bred Kiwi having grown up on a farm in Southland. He lives on the North Shore in Auckland where he enjoys being close to the beach. From an early age John had a keen interest in the investment world and he continues to study and read books on finance and investments.
